Newer PC’s are evolving with faster processor speeds, larger hard drives, and higher amounts of system memory. At the same time new web browsers cache (store) significant amounts of information. While caching of information is beneficial for surfing the web, cached information stored by your web browser can prevent you from logging into web applications, degrade overall application performance and in some instances cause an application to timeout. A user needs to perform some simple and ongoing maintenance in order to keep their PC or Mac operating efficiently.
General Practices - A user of web based applications should:
- Log into web based applications only when you need to use them.
- Save your work regularly while you are working.
- Log out and close your web browser when you are finished with a web based application.
- Log out of a web application if you use a laptop and regularly put your laptop to sleep.
- If you need to leave your computer for a period of time, save your work and log out. If your machine goes to sleep you may not be able to recover your work.
- Never log into a web based application from multiple computers at the same time using the same user account information.
Web Browser Maintenance - On an regular basis users should clear their web browser history and data:
- This will prevent web based applications from becoming sluggish, unresponsive, timeouts and login issues from occurring.
- This will allow new updates and features in web based applications to be seen and used.
- Please see either https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000510.htm or https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-clear-your-cache-on-any-browser for information on clearing various web browsers cache on PC's, Mac's or Mobile devices.
- Close your web browser and restart it after clearing the cache. If you use a Mac, make sure to close the web browser and not the web browser window.
